          ’Twas a beautiful Sunday pre-Thanksgiving celebration – and “thankful” we were.  “Ours to Give – the Long Legacy of an American Family” premiered to an estimated audience of 275 in the J. C. Nichols Auditorium at Liberty Memorial, Sunday, November 18, 2007.  Culminating efforts by Director Rich Luckin, Screenwriter Peter Hansen along with Executive Producer Bonnie Hansen, produced a wonderful documentary which left many in attendance with new knowledge and a desire to learn more.

          Out of state guests included the Hon. Mayor and Mrs. Dennis Weber, City of Longview, Washington, featured voice actors, Johanna and Michael Rowan, Lakewood, Colorado, and Director Rich Luckin, Golden, Colorado.

          After acknowledgements and the film presentation, guests were invited to a beautiful reception held in the auditorium lobby.  White linens, candles, and fine silver adorned the tables which included beautiful horse displays.  Desserts and warm drinks were enjoyed as Craig Walker (Vice-president at the time), board members Robyn Walker, Bonnie Hansen, and society member, Phyllis Hamilton circled the crowd dressed in vintage clothing.

          “To give is to receive,” and we are very thankful to those who made this premiere event possible: Mr. Eli Paul and staff, Liberty Memorial, Alycia Nichols, Owner, Something Borrowed, Rob Loethen, Joy Brigman, Tam Asplund, Joyce Cromer and Barbara Cattle.

          Giving embodies the values of the Long family.  As we share this “gift” of a film, a Thanksgiving season celebration was never more appropriate.

Film Support

Most grateful thank you’s for cash donations toward our R.A.L.H.S. documentary, “Ours To Give,” to:

  • The R. A. Long Foundation (which includes the Long/Ellis family), Kansas City, Missouri

  • Drs. Travis and Phyllis Cavens, Longview, Washington

  • The Longview Foundation, who’s purpose is the preservation of the arches and other buildings on Longview Farm (owned by Dave Gale), Lee’s Summit, Missouri

  • Ed and Velma Johnson, Columbia, Missouri

  • Marcella Smith (Mrs. Dave Smith, Jr.), Shawnee Mission, Kansas and others;

  • Diane Quattrocchi, Event Chairperson, whose generous financial support and many hours of work (along with her “team”) made the lavish and luscious display of homemade treats.

Without the above financial support, our project would not have been possible.  Much appreciation!

Last of all, without the initial investment of cash and time of Tim Sullivan (RALHS President 2006 to 2014), R.A.L.H.S. would not have been organized in August 2006.
